Alocasia Plants for Sale in Australia
Most of the Alocasias in our collection are propagated in-house or sourced from local Australian growers. These are grown indoors and hence aren’t generic greenhouse imports—they’re already adjusted to indoor conditions. Some varieties stay compact, while others can grow tall with large, shield-shaped leaves that make a statement in any room.
Are Alocasia Plants Toxic to Pets?
Yes. Like many aroids, Alocasias are toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. They contain calcium oxalate crystals that can cause irritation. If you’re looking for non-toxic alternatives, check out our pet-safe collection.
Why Do Alocasia Go Dormant in Winter?
Alocasia naturally slow down or go dormant in cooler weather and lower light. During this period, it's normal for some leaves to yellow and drop. Reduce watering and wait until growth resumes in warmer months before repotting or fertilising.
Why Are My Alocasia Leaves Drooping or Dying Off?
Alocasia plants don’t typically hold a large number of leaves—it's normal for older ones to die off as new ones grow. Drooping can also signal watering issues: they’re highly sensitive to both under- and overwatering. Keep soil evenly moist but not soggy, and let the top few centimetres dry out before watering again.
Alocasia Care Tips
Alocasias thrive in bright, indirect light and elevated humidity. Use a chunky, well-draining mix and avoid cold drafts. While they’re not the easiest houseplant, they reward attentive care with striking growth and bold foliage.
