Graptophyllum pictum ‘Purpureum’ – Purple Caricature Plant

This colourful foliage plant is grown in-house and known for its striking variegation in shades of green, cream, and purple. Graptophyllum pictum ‘Purpureum’, commonly known as the Purple Caricature Plant, is a hardy and rewarding option for indoor growers looking for something a little different.

What to Expect

The plant pictured is a representation of what you will receive. It is a rooted, established cutting grown in our standard aroid mix and ready to pot up or grow on.

Why We Like It

• Grown in-house: We propagate and grow these ourselves in soil-based aroid mix.
• Responsive foliage: Leaves will dramatically droop when the plant needs water but recover quickly. If left dry for too long, the plant may drop its lower leaves — but will bounce back with regular watering.
• Indoor-suited: While commonly grown outdoors in tropical climates, we recommend keeping this variety indoors in cooler areas. It’s also reportedly toxic to birds and pets if ingested.

Care Instructions

• Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Too much direct sun can scorch the leaves, but low light may reduce variegation.
• Watering: Allow the top 2–3 cm of mix to dry before watering. The plant will visibly droop when it’s ready for a drink — but don’t let it go too long.
• Humidity: Tolerates average household humidity well. Higher humidity encourages fuller, lusher growth.

We only ship plants on Mondays. Please order before 2pm on Sunday to ensure your plant will be sent the following Monday. Orders placed after this time MIGHT not be shipped untill the following week.

We only ship plants to non-quarantine states (sorry sorry WA, TAS and NT residents). Shipping of plants is capped at $18.00 per order. This includes the packing materials and labour times. We use recycled packing where possible to reduce our waste and keep cost down, but we ensure that all packing material is sturdy enough to resist damage during transit.

If no one is home to receive your order, the parcel will be left in a safe place. We will not request signature on delivery, as parcels sent back to the post office may not get picked up for days, therefore increasing the amount of stress placed on the plant(s) inside.

This plant can also be picked up from the Northern Wellbeing Centre; 113C miller st, Epping VIC. If you select this option at check-out, we will email you to organise a pick-up time.
