Hoya and Dischidia Plants for Sale in Australia

This collection often includes well-known species like Hoya carnosa, Hoya obovata, and Dischidia ovata—alongside harder-to-find varieties depending on seasonal availability. These vining plants are ideal for hanging planters or training along trellises, and adapt well to most indoor environments.

What’s the Difference Between Hoya and Dischidia?

Hoya and Dischidia are closely related but differ in several ways. Hoyas often have thicker, waxy leaves and can produce clusters of fragrant, star-shaped flowers. Dischidias are typically smaller-leaved with thinner foliage, and while they may flower, they’re mainly grown for their delicate trailing growth. Both are epiphytes and thrive with similar care indoors.

Why Isn’t My Hoya Flowering?

Hoyas can take time to bloom, especially if they’re still young or recently repotted. They require bright, indirect light to flower, and a touch of patience. Avoid cutting the flowering spurs (“peduncles”), as Hoyas often rebloom from the same point year after year.

Are Hoya and Dischidia Toxic to Pets?

Both Hoya and Dischidia are considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, making them a great option for pet-friendly households. However, it's still best to keep trailing plants out of reach from curious chewers.

How to Care for Hoya and Dischidia Indoors

Both genera prefer bright, indirect light and well-draining soil. Hoyas like to dry out more between waterings, while Dischidias prefer more consistent moisture. As epiphytes, they also appreciate extra airflow and moderate humidity. Avoid soggy soil and provide support for climbing types.
