Anthurium Velvet Shadow × Hoffmanii – Hybrid Clone with Rich Leaf Colour

This hybrid Anthurium is a genetic clone of our in-house mother plant, produced via stem cutting. The plant in the first two images is the exact plant for sale. The third image shows the mother plant, while the last four photos show its seed and pollen parents from the original grower's line.

The mother plant was cultivated from seed sourced from a local grower. While this hybrid leans more toward the pollen parent's appearance in mature foliage, new leaves emerge with a striking maroon-purple tone—an inherited trait from the seed parent. As the leaves mature, they darken to a deep velvet green with defined texture and shape.

Key Features

  • In-House Propagation: Grown from a stem cutting of our mother plant—genetically identical.
  • Hybrid Origin: Cross between ‘Velvet Shadow’ and ‘Hoffmanii’ with influence from both parents.
  • Colour-Changing Foliage: New leaves emerge maroon-purple and deepen to a rich green.
  • Passive Hydroponics: Grown in passive hydro and sent in perlite—clean and root-ready for your setup.

Care Requirements

  • Light: Bright, filtered light is ideal. Avoid strong direct sun.
  • Watering: Keep the perlite moist but not saturated. Consistent humidity supports healthy growth.
  • Medium: Grown in passive hydroponics using perlite. Can be kept in this setup or transitioned to another suitable medium if preferred.
  • Humidity: Prefers 60% or higher for optimal growth and leaf development.

What to Expect

The first 4 images show the exact plant you will receive. The third image shows the mother plant it was propagated from. The last four images show the parent photos of our mother plant. Natural variation may occur with new growth over time.

Shipping

This plant will be sent in its plastic growing pot along with the hydroponic medium it is growing in.

We only ship plants on Mondays. Please order before 2pm on Sunday to ensure your plant will be sent the following Monday. Orders placed after this time may not be shipped until the following week.

We only ship plants to non-quarantine states (sorry WA, TAS and NT residents). Shipping of plants is capped at $18.00 per order. This includes the packing materials and labour times. We use recycled packing where possible to reduce our waste and keep cost down, but we ensure that all packing material is sturdy enough to resist damage during transit.

If no one is home to receive your order, the parcel will be left in a safe place. We will not request signature on delivery, as parcels sent back to the post office may not get picked up for days, therefore increasing the amount of stress placed on the plant(s) inside.

This plant can also be picked up from the Northern Wellbeing Centre; 113C miller st, Epping VIC. If you select this option at check-out, we will email you to organise a pick-up time.

CURRENT GROWING CONDITIONS

This plant has been propagated and grown in hydroponics medium. All of our hydroponics plants are potted up in leca, perlite, or MAB grow, and left sitting in 1 - 2 cm of nutrient solution at all times. Our nutrient solution is made up of Growth Technology Foliage Focus or Complete Focus diluted to 5 ml per litre of water.

Before being sent to you, this plant was growing in our climate controlled grow room. Temperatures sit abouve 20 C at all times, and relative humidity does not drop below 60%.

SUGGESTED CARE ON ARRIVAL

This plant will arrive in its pot along with the hydroponic medium it is currently growing in. If you would ike to continue growing this plant as we have, in a hydroponic medium, then all you need to do it sit it in a shallow container of nutrient water.

In general, we find that plants transition from hydroponics mediums to soil without any issues. However, if you want to transition the plant into soil with extra caution, then you can keep it in the medium it arrived in for a few days. This will allow your plant to acclimate to your environment before transitioning to a new medium. You will need to sit the pot in 1 - 2 cm of water to prevent the roots from drying out. Long term the plant will need nutriets added to the water, but if you only plan to grow it this way for a week or so then it'll be fine without the addition of nutrients.

When ready, you can pot the plant up in a well-draining soil mix. 50% premium potting mix and 50% perlite works well, but adding .extra amendments such as orchid bark for extra drainage can help in creating an optimum soil mix. These extra amendments should especailly be used for anthuriums, which require extra drainage. If you require more specific information about soil mix, please contact us.
