Rhaphidophora decursiva 'Aurea' – Variegated Dragon Tail Plant

The Rhaphidophora decursiva 'Aurea', more commonly known as the Variegated Dragon Tail Plant, is a rare and stunning aroid with beautifully variegated leaves. As the plant matures, its glossy green leaves develop deep fenestrations, bringing a visually stunning and distinctive form. While the all-green version of this plant is more commonly found, the ‘Aurea’ variegated variety is highly sought after and rarely available.

Why Choose Rhaphidophora decursiva 'Aurea'?

  • Unique Variegation: The Aurea variegation starts as light green on new leaves, which can make it difficult to notice at first. However, as the leaves age, these lighter sections gradually fade to a beautiful golden-yellow, giving the plant its signature variegation. We've provided close-up photos of the newest leaves to help you see this transformation up close.
  • Propagated from Our Mother Plant: Each of these plants was propagated from our healthy mother plant and still retains the original propagating leaf, alongside a new leaf from the current active growth point.

Care for the Variegated Dragon Tail Plant

Though it’s a rare variety, the Variegated Dragon Tail Plant is surprisingly easy to care for. Unlike other aurea varigeted plants, we have found that the Rhaphidophora decursiva 'Aurea' is not prone to browning. Like its non-variegated counterpart, it thrives with minimal attention and can tolerate a range of indoor conditions:

  • Light Requirements: While it can tolerate lower light conditions, providing bright, indirect light will encourage the best variegation, with the lighter parts of the leaves fading to yellow as they age.
  • Watering: Fairly drought-resistant, this plant prefers to dry out slightly between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root issues, so a careful balance is key.
  • Growth Habit: As a natural climber, providing a totem or support structure will help it grow upright and encourage larger, fenestrated leaves as the plant matures.

What to Expect

The plant you see in the photos is the exact plant you will receive. Each plant is individually photographed and priced based on its level of variegation and the maturity of its leaves. This ensures you know exactly what you're getting, including a close-up view of the newest leaf from the active growth point.

Don't miss your opportunity to own this rare and beautiful plant. The Variegated Dragon Tail Plant will make a striking addition to any collection, offering easy care with a unique visual appeal.
