Hoya carnosa – A Classic, Hardy Favourite

Hoya carnosa is one of the most beloved and easy-care Hoyas around. Known for its thick, waxy green leaves and stunning star-shaped flowers, it's a timeless addition to any indoor plant collection. Whether you're new to Hoyas or an experienced grower, this hardy species is an ideal choice.

What to Expect

The plant pictured is a representation of the Hoya carnosa you will receive. Each plant is well-rooted and grown from healthy propagation stock. It will arrive in a plastic grow pot, established and ready to continue thriving in your care.

Why Choose Hoya carnosa?

  • Thick, Glossy Foliage: The deep green, leathery leaves are semi-succulent and help the plant tolerate light drought. Its trailing or climbing habit also makes it suitable for hanging pots or trellises.
  • Fragrant Blooms: Once mature, Hoya carnosa produces clusters of pink, waxy flowers with a sweet, floral fragrance. These blooms can appear several times a year in ideal conditions.
  • Extremely Resilient: Known for being low-maintenance, it adapts well to a variety of indoor conditions and is more forgiving than many other houseplants.
  • Great for Beginners: With its tolerance for missed waterings and less-than-perfect lighting, this is an excellent choice for newer plant parents.

Care Instructions for Hoya carnosa

  • Light Requirements: Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate medium light. A little morning sun is fine, but avoid harsh afternoon rays.
  • Watering: Let the top few centimetres of soil dry out between waterings. Avoid overwatering—Hoya carnosa dislikes wet feet.
  • Humidity & Temperature: Happy in standard indoor humidity, though it appreciates a bit more humidity in warmer months. Ideal temperatures range from 15°C to 26°C.
  • Soil Type: Use a well-draining mix such as orchid bark, perlite, and potting mix to promote strong root growth and prevent rot.

With its lush foliage and sweet-scented blooms, Hoya carnosa is a must-have for anyone who loves classic, fuss-free houseplants.

Shipping

This plant will be sent in its plastic growing pot.

We ship plants every Monday to non-quarantine states. Please place your order before 2 pm on Sunday to ensure your plant is sent the following Monday. Orders placed after this time may not be shipped until the following week.

Orders to WA and TAS are shipped on selected dates only due to quarantine requirements. Orders for WA and TAS must be placed by 12 pm (midday) on the Friday before dispatch. Please see the list of WA and TAS shipping dates at the bottom of this page.

Shipping for plants to non-quarantine states is capped at $18.00 per order. Shipping for plants to WA and TAS is capped at $30.00 per order. We currently do not ship plants to NT.

Shipping costs include packing materials, labour, and certification where required. We use recycled packaging where possible to reduce waste and keep costs down, while ensuring all packing materials are sturdy enough to protect your plants during transit.

If no one is home to receive your order, the parcel will be left in a safe place. We do not request signature on delivery, as parcels returned to the post office may not be collected for several days, which can place additional stress on the plant(s) inside.

This plant can also be picked up from Northern Wellbeing Centre, 113C Miller Street, Epping VIC. If you select this option at checkout, we will email you to arrange a pickup time.
