Echinocactus grusonii, commonly known as Golden Barrel Cactus, is a classic round cactus with strong ribbing and golden-yellow spines. Its bold shape and symmetrical growth make it a popular choice for cactus collectors, sunny indoor positions, patios, and greenhouse displays.

Echinocactus grusonii – Golden Barrel Cactus for Bright, Sunny Spaces

Rounded Barrel Shape with Golden Spines

This cactus is known for its neat globe-like form and prominent ribs lined with golden spines. As it matures, it develops a strong architectural look that works well as a feature plant in a pot or cactus collection.

Best Grown in Strong Light

Golden Barrel Cactus grows best in a very bright position and can handle direct sun once gradually acclimatised. A sunny windowsill, bright patio, greenhouse, or covered outdoor area with good light is ideal.

Low Water Needs and Simple Care

Use a free-draining cactus or succulent mix and allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water sparingly, especially during cooler months, and avoid letting the plant sit in wet potting mix.

A Long-Lived Cactus for Collectors

This slow-growing cactus can become an impressive specimen over time. Its tidy rounded form, golden spine colour, and easy-care nature make it a reliable choice for both beginners and experienced cactus growers.

Please note: The plant pictured is a representation of the plant you will receive. Each cactus will vary slightly in size, shape, colour and spine formation.

Shipping

We ship plants every Monday to non-quarantine states. Please place your order before 2 pm on Sunday to ensure your plant is sent the following Monday. Orders placed after this time may not be shipped until the following week.

Orders to WA and TAS are shipped on selected dates only due to quarantine requirements. Orders for WA and TAS must be placed by 12 pm (midday) on the Friday before dispatch. Please see the list of WA and TAS shipping dates at the bottom of this page.

Shipping for plants to non-quarantine states is capped at $18.00 per order. Shipping for plants to WA and TAS is capped at $30.00 per order. We currently do not ship plants to NT.

Shipping costs include packing materials, labour, and certification where required. We use recycled packaging where possible to reduce waste and keep costs down, while ensuring all packing materials are sturdy enough to protect your plants during transit.

If no one is home to receive your order, the parcel will be left in a safe place. We do not request signature on delivery, as parcels returned to the post office may not be collected for several days, which can place additional stress on the plant(s) inside.

This plant can also be picked up from Northern Wellbeing Centre, 113C Miller Street, Epping VIC. If you select this option at checkout, we will email you to arrange a pickup time.
