Philodendron Gigas - Velvet Leaf Climber

Discover the unique charm of the Philodendron Gigas, a standout aroid renowned for its striking elongated, velvet-like leaves. Ideal for plant collectors and indoor gardening enthusiasts, this climbing plant delights with leaves that grow increasingly larger as it climbs, offering both a visual treat and a rewarding challenge as each new leaf unfurls.

Why Choose Philodendron Gigas?

• Exquisite Leaf Texture: Experience the shimmery velvet texture with expansive, elongated leaves that transition from deep amber to lush olive green as they age.
• Dynamic Growth: Celebrated for its impressive leaf growth, this aroid provides the exciting opportunity to observe and nurture each new leaf, challenging and rewarding gardeners who aim to achieve its maximum leaf size.
• Traditionally Propagated: Unlike many commercially available variants propagated through tissue culture, our Philodendron Gigas plants are propagated in house via traditional methods. The mother plant was obtained years ago, originally from a private collection in far north Queensland.

Care Instructions:

Caring for your Philodendron Gigas is straightforward, yet engaging, perfect for both novice and seasoned plant collectors.

• Soil Needs: Opt for well-draining soil, allowing it to partially dry out between waterings to promote healthy root growth.
• Lighting: Thrives in bright, indirect light. For optimal growth, place it near a south-facing window or slightly away from a north-facing window to avoid harsh direct sunlight. East and west-facing windows are also suitable, offering gentler morning or afternoon sun exposure.
• Support Growth: Encourage spectacular leaf development with a moss pole, reflecting its natural inclination to climb, with leaves known to reach up to 120 cm in the wild.
